DeFalco's Bargain Plate Wort Chiller

Our bargain heat exchanger is a miniature version of the same design you will find in craft breweries throughout the country.  It consists of 30 plates of 316 stainless steel that are brazed together with 99.9% pure copper. This highly efficient, compact chiller will get your wort to yeast pitching temperatures quickly. The wort side uses 1/2” NPT connections, while the water side uses standard garden hose thread. This unit differs slightly than the image shown.  It has garden hose fittings welded right to the unit for easy adaptation to your cooling water. They can be fit with regular garden hoses or even quick connect fittings to attach to garden hoses. There is one female and one male garden hose fitting on the unit. The female is intended to receive the male fitting from the end of the hose connected to your faucet and the male garden hose fitting for connecting to another hose for the heated water exiting the exchanger.  Works with gravity or pump.

As with the Blichmann Therminator, we recommend the Blichmann Back-Flush Hose Assembly with this chiller.  It is extremely helpful for flushing out the wort after your brew session is finished.  With the 1/2" Female NPT fitting on one end & a Female Garden Hose Thread on the other, it lends itself to simply hooking up to your garden hose and blasting clean.

Also recommended are the Blichmann QuickConnect™ fittings. These allow you to easily attach either 3/8" or 1/2" tubing to the wort side of the chiller. With these fittings, everything that touches the wort is either stainless steel or silicone. They install without tools, are easy to disassemble, and sanitizing is easy. You need a pair, one fitting for the wort in, and one for wort out.
